Tuc Watkins Joins GH (SOD 10/22/96)

"I'm no longer playing the hypocritical David Vickers [his role on OLTL]. I'm now playing the Hippocratic Dr. Dorman," cracks Watkins. Recipient of the 1996 Soap Opera Digest Award for Best Male Scene Stealer, Watkins replaces Rob Youngblood, who left GH to appear on Fox's Fire Co. 132.

Watkins remained busy during his six-month absence from daytime. "After I left One Life to Live, I moved to L.A. and read for a few things," he relates. "I spent the better part of the summer traveling: I went to Kansas City to visit my folks, San Diego, San Francisco, Chicago, back to New York...then, I ended up in the 'hospital.'"

General Hospital, that is. "[Dorman] seemed like a fun character, and we're at a turning point where the character will turn quite dastardly," Watkins reveals. Is he concerned about the similarities between Dorman and his previous role as bad-boy David Vickers? "They're different. The evil character I played in the past was never an actual threat to anyone, but Dr. Dorman has the license to literally cut into people." Monica had better watch her back.
