Why They Really Left: Tuc Watkins (SOD 6/4/96)

"I told One Life to Live before Christmas that I was going to be leaving the show [when my contract was up in March] so that no one would be surprised. I personally didn't want to be tempted [to re-sign]. I felt I had run my race on the show, and I could see the finish line coming up.

"I've produced and directed for a threater company, acted in theater and TV, and now, I want to do something different. It's sort of a natural desire to want to move on within the industry.

"So often, you hear people in the industry say, 'Don't stay on a soap too long because you learn bad habits.' The bad habits that I've learned are to be on time, learn your lines and act natural in front of the camera. So if those are the bad habits that I've learned, then I'm willing to learn some more. It's really the best job I've ever had."

Executive Producer Susan Bedsow Horgan Says: "Tuc Watkins was adored by fans who loved the wonderful, refreshing character of David. We are sorry to see Tuc go, but it was his decision. We wish him the best."

What He's Doing Now: Watkins is living in L.A. and is auditioning for film and prime-time roles. "Ideally, I would like to do comedy, because I think it's the most fun," he says. Asked if he would return to OLTL, the actor replied, "You never know. David could come back and stir up trouble for a day or so."
