David Gets Serious With Spencer! (SID 1/31/06)

It was a familar setup to One Life to Live fans: David confronts Spencer about his manipulative ways, the quips go flying and, inevitably, the duplicitous doc forces his younger brother to back down. This time, however, things didn't go quite as planned. Oh, sure, there was the banter we've come to expect, but things took a more serious turn as David began to appeal to the obviously painful past that they'd shared. "Do you have any good thoughts or pleasant memories about anything that happened between us?" he asked, stunning Spencer into silence. "You're my big brother," David went on, echoing Marlon Brando's classic speech from On the Waterfront. "You were supposed to look out for me." Spencer seemed to zone out as his younger brother continued. "You failed me as a brother a long time ago, but you know what's worse? You are still failing yourself as a man." For once, Spencer was left speechless as David enjoyed a temporary but satisfying victory over his brother. Suddenly what had started off in familiar territory led the characters -- and us -- into a fascinating new arena.
